Using Google Checkout to collect donations.
I have got many question from people regarding to collecting donations from donors using Google Checkout.
Some people said that it is impossible, some others said it is possible. So what is the right?
I can tell you all that the answer is “YES” and “NO”!
You can use Google Checkout to collect donations if you:
- Are based in the United States.
- Represent a valid 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization.
- Clearly display your organization’s tax-exempt status on your website.
- Complete the required steps to accept donations through Checkout.
You may not use Google Checkout to collect donations if your organization is designated:
- 501(c)(1)
- 501(c)(2)
- 501(c)(14)
Required steps do I take in order to accept donations through Google Checkout:
Before you can accept donations through Google Checkout, you must:
- Sign up as a Google Checkout merchant. When you sign up:
- Use your 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization’s address.
- Make sure your EIN matches your non-profit organization’s Tax ID number.
- After you sign up, select Non-Profit (IRS certified 501c3) as your Primary Product Type on the Settings page, then click Save profile.
- Complete the bank verification process.
Once you’ve completed steps one and two, you can add Donate buttons to your website to get started processing donations with Google Checkout.
You may be charged transaction fees while our team completes an initial review of your account to verify the 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status of your organization. Any fees you accrue will be credited back to your account in full within a few business days. This credit will show up as a lump sum credit adjustment under the ‘Other Activity’ column on the Payouts tab.
Important: Your account may be suspended if you’re accepting donations via Google Checkout, but you do not represent a valid 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization.
